Industry Benchmark Data
In the drive for efficiency and profitability IT professionals will find it helpful to benchmark their organization’s performance against its peers.
The DCG Industry Benchmark Database Query Tool provides subscription-based online access to a proprietary database of over 7,000 recently completed (last 3 years) development/enhancement projects to allow subscribers to perform their own simple queries in real-time without the need to engage a consultant.
DCG has a reputation in the industry that is among the highest of all service providers. DCG supports a diverse mix of clients from a variety of industries. Many of our clients utilize our data collection, analysis and performance reporting services.
DCG actively participates in the collection, maintenance, analysis and distribution of industry performance data such as software productivity metrics at a client level and through membership in organizational focus groups and consortiums and in sponsorship of not-for-profit efforts such as the International Software Benchmarking Standards Group (ISBSG).
As part of many of our software measurement and software sizing assignments, we collect data for project size, effort, duration, resources, defects and cost. All data collection activities are performed on-site by DCG. We do not make use of outside surveys or other remote data collection instruments.
The data collected is scrubbed and stored in our Database. The primary use of the Database is to support our benchmarking consulting engagements in our Software Measurement Practice. The Database allows us to work with customers to analyze the data to give them realistic comparisons with their own internal performance. We also use the Database to add value for our customers in our consulting engagements across all Practices.
The query tool allows the user to select filter values for the following parameters:
- Industry Type: All, Finance, Telecom, Other
- Project Type: All, Enhancement, New Development
- Platform: All, Client Server, Date Warehouse, Mainframe, Oracle, PC, Web, Web e-business, Web R&D
- Database Type: All, Batch, Data Warehouse, Interactive, Mainframe, Oracle, PC-Based
- Methodology: All, RAD, Traditional
- Language: All, .NET, Java/similar, unix shell, 2nd generation, 3rd generation, 4th generation, 5th generation
The query will return the number of projects referenced and the average, minimum and maximum values for project size (in function points) and productivity (in hours per function point).
