"When the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat

DCG independence (we are consultants, not product peddlers) allows us
to credibly help clients evaluate and implement the appropriate
solution for a specific frustration or challenge. This often involves
not only tools but process changes as well.
Client needs are more complicated than simply mapping features and benefits
to a problem set. Today's companies are complex, often with matrix
authority structures and internal processes that sometimes work against
each other.
Understanding the specific issue and why prior attempts did not work is
involved. While elegant software development may produce award-winning
code, they may or may not match how the client works and what is
needed.
DCG has been evaluating several Software-as-a-Service capabilities for
our clients. Initial research indicates that the marketplace is less
focused on finding the next "killer app" than it is on
enabling clients to configure solutions that work for them.
This trend is encouraging and we will be sharing our findings in the
next newsletter.
