BUILDING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
Improve your Software
Development Capabilities and Performance
|
|
David Herron's Article on "Identifying your
Software Development Best Practices" was published on
March 30 in the Software Tech News (STN) Vol 13, No. 1, "Software
Quality, Reliability, and Error Prediction", in both print and
on-line formats.

BEST PRACTICES IS A COMMONLY-USED TERM THAT IS OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD.
THIS ARTICLE GIVES SOME USEFUL INFORMATION ON DEVELOPING BEST
PRACTICES, IN SOFTWARE QUALITY AND RELATED AREAS.
We often read articles about software development best
practices. Sometimes these articles entertain us with first-person
stories about how a particular development practice or a software
development tool helped to save the day on an important product
release or systems implementation. Other times, these best practices
articles are informing the reader about some tool, technique or
process that warrants a 'best practices' label because it can improve
your organizations productivity and quality. But what is truly a
software development best practice? Read
article.

GOVERNMENT BY IT
|
|
|

|
|
Federal IT
Dashboard
|
The
Federal Government spends a lot of money. A good portion of it is
spent on Information Technology to improve quality of services to
constituents. While the Feds make a nice target for people to
complain when thing goes wrong (and they do), the fact of the matter
is that much of America works, including much of the Federal
Government.
Yes, there are challenges, and there always will be when
you consider you have about 300 million free people pursuing life,
liberty and a little happiness all at the same time. You can't make
everyone happy! However, for a firm like DCG that advocates
metrics and measurement, it is great to see that the Feds have made a
great first attempt at IT Budget Dashboarding.
We are happy to see this kind of innovation being attempted at the
Federal level. The website is still in Beta, so keep that in mind as
you review and play with it.
DCG's work on improving SDLC performance for our clients
in the civilian agencies and the DOD has given us a front row seat to
see first hand the hard work and level of committment expressed by
many in the Federal workforce. This Beta site is a good example of
that, in our view. - Editors
