THE AGILE CORNER with Michael Harris, DCG
President
There has been much said and written about
the mythical “conflict” between the values and principles of
the Manifesto for Agile Software Development
(http://agilemanifesto.org/) and those of Software Process
Improvement (SPI) embodied in Models such as CMMI
(www.sei.cmu.edu/cmmi/).
However, there is increasing
experience (and evidence at SEPG and other conferences) that
shows that both sets of values and principles can be combined
to deliver more value to an enterprise than either one on its
own.
Using examples from a current project, it can be
demonstrated that software process improvement projects, such
as CMMI implementations, can positively benefit by adopting an
iterative “Agile” approach and adhering to the principles of
the Declaration of Interdependence (DOI) (www.pmdoi.org) which
seeks to extend the Agile Manifesto to non-software products,
project management and management in general...Want to know

A successful software
process improvement program can result in improvements in
performance efficiency, on time delivery of software and
higher quality deliverables. There have been numerous accounts
of companies achieving the benefits that come with advancing
to higher levels of maturity with the Software Engineering
Institute’s CMMI® framework, Six Sigma program, CobIT and
ITIL. But the hard reality is that some improvement programs
can and do fail.
By increasing organizational
awareness of the pitfalls an organization may encounter, they
can assess their current culture and evaluate the potential
for success or failure. Top performing organizations are
successful at initiating change because they are not afraid to
execute bold initiatives, are not fearful of making mistakes
and have learned that the road to success is often littered
with a few failures along the way.
This webinar,
presented by DCG's David Herron in conjunction with Marilyn
Edelson of OnTrack, will discuss and highlight key risk
factors that can contribute to the success of a process
improvement program.
