CMMIŽ: Good for the world,
good for the United States ..... by Tom Cagley,
VP, Process Improvement and Measurement at DCG
The
latest CMMIŽ Maturity profile report (Sept 07) from
the Software Engineering Institute tells us a lot about the
state of software process improvement. In a nutshell, adoption
of CMMIŽ worldwide continues to increase with the rate of
increase greater overseas than in the US. The data in the
chart below and the accompanying graphic illustration (drawn
from the CMMIŽ Maturity Report) tell us CMMIŽ continues to
grow in all categories.
Furthermore, an interesting trend is the increase of
CMMIŽ adoption in 2007 in the Business Services sector from
55% to 62% in contrast to a slight drop in Manufacturing to
21% from 23% in 2006. As expected because of the US Government
Military mandate for CMMIŽ compliance more US Contractor for
Military Government Firms reported than Commercial firms in
both 2006 and 2007. This is expected since more and more
Contractors firms, of all sizes, have to be at some level of
CMMIŽ compliance. However the commercial sector is keeping
pace indicating that the value proposition of improved
performance from CMMIŽ continues to make inroads into the
management decision making process.
