DCG helps AM General successfully achieve CMMI ML 3
In September, 2011, AM General passed the
SCAMPI A Appraisal to successfully achieve the Capability
Maturity Model Integration Maturity Level 3.
The HUMVEE military
vehicle has become an iconic symbol of the US Military worldwide.
The manufacturer of the US Military's HUMVEE is AM General, based
In Livonia, Michigan. AM General recognized the challenges
of international competition and wanted to raise its ability to
work smarter and continue to be a recognized leader in
high-quality manufacturing for its customers worldwide.
In September of 2011, AM General successfully achieved CMMI
Maturity Level 3. The Appraisal results are available to
view on the SEI Website at http://sas.sei.cmu.edu/pars/pars.aspx.

DCG performed an
initial appraisal for AM General and helped them understand the
gap between their current state and the goal of a Maturity Level
3 organization. Working as coaches and mentors DCG helped AM
General become their own change agents adapting CMMI Level 3 best
practices to the AM General way of doing things. Because of AM
General's prior work with Global ISO standards, this process was
familiar and the adept teams in Livonia soon picked up the pace
and reached Level 3. We are pleased to have partnered with
a key worldwide automotive supplier.
The CMMI is a framework for business process improvement.
CMMI helps organizations improve their performance and capability
to consistently and predictably deliver the products, services,
and sourced goods their customers want, when they want them and
at a price they're willing to pay. From an internal
perspective, CMMI helps companies improve operational performance
by lowering the cost of production, delivery, and sourcing.
The CMMI was developed and is monitored by The Carnegie Mellon
Software Engineering Institute (SEI) who work closely with
defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to
continually improve software-intensive systems. Read more at

CISQ
Fall 2011 Status Report
Below is a brief report of current CISQ progress and future
objectives. Also it presents a set of objectives for
CISQ's next phase to support adoption of the CISQ
measures beginning in 2012.
During its successful first phase CISQ membership was for
companies who wanted to participate in developing standard
definitions for automated measures of the functional size and
structural quality of IT application software. These measurement
definitions will be incorporated into OMG's Structured Metrics
Meta-model during Fall 2011. The objectives for CISQ's next phase
focus on deploying best practices for using CISQ measures in
managing application portfolios, benchmarking performance,
reducing costs, and controlling the quality of supplied software.
CISQ will pursue these objectives by synthesizing best practices
for using structural quality measures from CISQ members as well
as external experts and then use several approaches for
supporting IT executives, application managers, and senior IT
professionals in deploying them internally.
CISQ Activities to Support Its
Next Phase
- CISQ will work
with member organizations to deploy industry best practices
for measuring, controlling, and improving application
quality using CISQ's standard size and quality
characteristic measures.
- CISQ will provide
a forum for IT customers and suppliers to deploy best
practices for using application structural quality measures
in developing baselines and managing supplier contracts.
- CISQ will promote
its measures and best practices to standards organizations
and others who influence IT best practices in industry and
government.
- CISQ will advise,
educate, and be the voice for business and government
leaders on the mission critical importance of IT application
quality.
