Estimation Using Functional Metrics
Thur, October 13, 9:00 - 10:00 am EDT . This 35-45
minute webinar outlines a path for incorporating the best
practices of robust software sizing (functional metrics) with
the collaborative techniques championed by the agile
community in a manner that increases standardization without
ignoring the principals of the Agile Manifesto. Looking at
two case studies of Agile-enabled software organizations that
use functional metrics, Tom outlines how a simple "words
into numbers" approach can produce the statistical
objectivity needed to estimate level of effort reliably and
help your Agile date commitments to stick. Register Now.

DCG is speaking at ISMA 6
Creating
Solutions with Measurement in Changing Times
Sept. 11 - 14, 2011
Greater Richmond Convention Center, Richmond, VA
Sheila Dennis and Pat Eglin:
Human Performance Improvement: Who Says We Can't
Measure Ourselves?
"Everyone loves a winner". So how does an organization
know when it is winning? When it has reached "success"?
The true value of process improvement is measured by
sustainability, and sustained process improvement is gauged by
the measure of changed behavior. There is a systematic and
systemic approach to solving and measuring performance issues in
an organization - Human Performance Improvement (HPI). We will
discuss the basic principles of HPI, which measures will indicate
if the process improvement initiative was "successful"
due to incentive driven change versus true adoption of the processes,
measures and metrics surrounding the amount of change humans' are
capable of handling and the level of absorption, and what
measures to collect to identify the level of success based on
employee's acceptance of new process and its effect on the success
of process improvement initiatives. Who says we can't measure
ourselves?
Thomas Cagley:
Boundaries, Boundaries Everywhere!
Boundaries are a historical problem. The rules in in the CPM do
not provide substantial guidance therefore using definitions from
all of the functional metrics should be considered to increase
the usefulness of the boundary and by extension function points.
Cosmic, IFPUG, Mark II and NESMA materials will be referenced.
The concept of linkage and cohesion will introduced to show a
quantitative approach to defining boundaries. Most functional
metrics contribute usefully to the boundary discussion. Individual
perception can and does impact the definition of boundaries.
Cohesion can be used to measure linkages. Boundary definition can
impact the usefulness of the information a count generates. This
presentation discusses how to balance multiple user communities'
views of boundaries.
