Agile Estimation Using Functional Metrics.
Estimation is a lightning rod for conflicts between agile and process driven methodologies. However, times are changing and agile is maturing. Part of the process of maturation is the incorporation of best practices from other methods and frameworks. In this presentation, Tom will explain how functional metrics allow you to incorporate additional process discipline into the estimation processes typically used by agile teams. Join Tom and review current approaches to agile estimation, learn an approach to incorporate functional metrics into agile estimation, and understand why process discipline in estimation is important to gauge improvement. This process can be used to estimate whole projects or specific components.  Visit www.qaiquest.org/boston for event information.

Brazilian flagBrazilian Government recommends IFPUG Function Points

At the September 2010 International Software Measurement Analysis (ISMA) Conference held in San Paolo, Brazil, and hosted by IFPUG, (International Function Point Users Group), David Consulting Group awarded Linda Ye of the BMO Financial Group in Toronto, Canada the DCG Innovation Works Award for an outstanding contribution to the field of functional measurement.

DCG Industry domain experts and analysts have been tracking the growing use of function points in Brazil, one of the fastest growing economies in the Western Hemisphere.

"It comes as no surprise that the Brazilian Government has committed to Function Points," comments Tom Cagley, Current Past President of the International Function Point Users Group.  "Their desire to aggressively compete with other mature industrial economies really underscores this decision."

The recent Brazilian  Government directive, on December 1, 2010, sets the stage for the advocacy and promotion of function points as a best practice.  Read more about IFPUG at http://www.ifpug.org/.
